Barrier Products LLC is pleased to offer BioSeal System.

Scientifically engineered, the BioSeal System completely seals and contains all hazardous gases and fluids associated with the transport, handling and storage of human remains and other pathological commodities. It addresses containment problems such as:

  • Cross-country and intercontinental shipping of human remains
  • Disinterment transition containment
  • Containment of fluids and odors during storage
  • Containment and control of infectious vapors and fluids

Simply put, the BioSeal System helps eliminate the dangers, concerns — and the work — of containment. It’s no wonder the containment capabilities of the BioSeal System have been certified by the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.

The BioSeal Material.

Smart engineering, solid construction.

The BioSeal System is a revolution in containment, promising maximum protection and convenience.

The BioSeal Material is made from a poly-aluminum foil-poly co-extruded laminate, and consists of an interior foil barrier that contains all fluids and vapors, and an exterior layer that provides strength and durability. Nothing could be easier or safer to use.

  • Cut the required length of BioSeal Material with a razor knife
  • Apply a handheld heat sealer to the seam to weld the material together

A seamless metal container is created — safe, flexible and easy to transport and store.

Absolute containment is assured, by design.

FAQ

Do I need a license to heat seal human or animal remains?
The heat sealing of human and animal remains is protected by our U.S. Patent #9,565,933 and requires appropriate licensing. Your purchase of a BioSeal® System with our trade secreted BioSeal System material will provide you the necessary and required license to heat seal human and animal remains.

What is the BioSeal® System material made of?
The BioSeal® System material is manufactured under a trade secret agreement with the United State Patent and Trademark Office. It is comprised of 6 layers of exotic polymers and aluminum foil compressed with special adhesives. The material’s interior foil barrier contains all fluids and vapors while the exterior layer provides strength and durability.

How do I seal human remains in the BioSeal® System?
The BioSeal® System material comes on a roll 36 inches wide and 300 feet long. Pull off only as much material as you need to contain the length of the decedent. The BioSeal® System material comes off the roll in two sealed layers that opens to 72”. Place the BioSeal® material on a flat surface and then open it out to its full width. Place the decedent onto the material and then fold it over to enclose the body. Simply align the edges of the pouch and slowly work along the edge with your handheld heat sealer being extra careful to overlap your heat sealing at the corners.

Can I cremate the BioSeal® System material?
The BioSeal® System material can be placed directly into a retort. There will be no measurable residue left after incinerating a ten foot long pouch.

Can I reopen and close a BioSeal® System pouch?
The BioSeal® System material can be opened and resealed as often as necessary.

Will the BioSeal® System material contain odors?
A properly sealed BioSeal® System pouch will contain all odors, fluids and gases generated by unrefrigerated human remains for at least 96 hours.

Will the BioSeal® System material contain disease?
A properly sealed BioSeal® System pouch will contain any known substance, vapor, gas, material, fluid, odor or chemical.

Will major air carriers accept human remains in the BioSeal® System?
Decedents that have been properly prepared and sealed in a BioSeal System pouch, packed with frozen gel packs then placed into an ATA approved fiberboard shipping container (combo) will be accepted by all major air carriers. The following major airlines are currently accepting the BioSeal™ System for the primary containment of human remains on their aircraft: US Air, Continental Airlines, Delta, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Northwest Airlines.

How difficult is the sealing process?
It is quick and easy. It takes about 3 to 5 minutes to safely contain human remains in the BioSeal® System pouch. View Sealing Process Video

Do I need a special sealing machine?
Your purchase of a BioSeal® System will include a 110volt handheld heat sealer that has been specifically modified to work with our trade secreted material

How do I move the descendent after I seal it?
The BioSeal® System material is very strong. It will contain and hold over 500 lbs of internal weight. After sealing the decedent simply grasp the extra material at each side of the BioSeal System pouch and lift or pull as needed.

What happens to the gases from decomposition?
The BioSeal® System material is a flexible metal container. It will grow to accommodate all the gases generated by unrefrigerated human remains until the internal pressure exceeds 95kph or about 300 psi.

What is the shelf life of the BioSeal System®?
The BioSeal® System material is unaffected by ambient heat or humidity and can be stored for up to 49 years.

How much space does a BioSeal® System require?
The BioSeal® Facility System comes with a vertical dispensing rack for the 300 foot long roll. The rack, sealer, roll and tools require about 1 square foot of floor space.

Can I write on BioSeal® material?
Notations made with a waterproof marker (such as Sharpie™) will not blur, fade or disappear.

Why isn’t there a window to view the decedent?
A view window does not meet Level 1 hazmat containment specifications. The BioSeal® System provides absolute containment. Nothing escapes a properly sealed BioSeal® System pouch.
